Authorised Purpose
If your community group is looking to raise funds for a specific purpose you can apply to Trillian Trust using the online grant application. It is not possible to list all the purposes we provide funding for, however all applications must meet the criteria of our Authorised Purpose Statement.
Authorised Purpose
Trillian Trust is licensed to conduct class 4 gambling for the objective of distributing the Net Proceeds to the following Authorised Purposes:
Promotion of any amateur sport where that sport is conducted for the recreation of the general public. This includes, but is not limited to, the provision of ground fees, equipment and uniforms for amateur sporting clubs and teams. No donations and/or payments to professional sports people.
Donations for cultural educational purposes that are of a non-commercial nature.
Donations for educational advancement through grants to schools or other educational institutes for equipment or the development of better student amenities not covered by government funding, including playground equipment etc.
Donations to recognised charitable organisations to further the objects of those groups.
Promoting, controlling, and conducting race meetings under the Racing Act 2003, including the payment of stakes, and the provision and maintenance of public amenities primarily used for race meetings.
No payment, commission or any other kind of financial reward can be attached or demanded as a pre-condition for either the issuing of any Authorised Purpose grant application forms, or the payment of any Authorised Purpose grants.
Purpose Restrictions
There are some restrictions on the purposes we can grant funding toward, for more information please email the grants team at grants@trillian.co.nz
Applications for wages and capital works projects are considered on a case by case basis, and are not considered as a high priority for Trillian Trust. In order for Trillian to help as many in the community as possible we recommend that applications for wages and operational costs are a period of 3 months or less.
The Net Proceeds Committee will give priority to applications concentrated on other purposes such as equipment, playing uniforms or other non-operational costs.
Expenses not Permitted
- Overseas Travel/Overseas Accommodation Costs
- Purchase of Buildings and/or Land
- Website Upgrade or Maintenance Costs
- Vehicle Mileage or Petrol and/or Vouchers
- Insurance Costs
- Prizes (other than Medals/Trophies)
- Gifts/Koha
- Auditing/Accounting Costs
- Dress Uniforms - non-playing attire
- Personal Items - Shoes, Socks, Mouth Guards, Hats etc
- Food, Beverages and Catering Costs
- Social Club Expenses
- Any Retrospective Expense(s)
- Individuals
Expenses considered to be a Low Priority
Applications for the following purposes are not considered a high priority for Trillian Trust. These will be considered on a case by case basis. The Net Proceeds Committee will give priority to applications concentrated on other purposes such as equipment, playing uniforms or other non-operational costs.

- Building Alterations/Renovations
- Purchase of Vehicles
- Operational Costs - Rent, Phone/Mobile, Power/Gas, Rates, Office Costs etc
